As reported by the Economics Times on 11th January, 2014, Kiran Bedi had expressed her disappointment with Arvind Kejriwal by stating,
AAP would allow Congress, the target of the anti-corruption campaign, to return to power through the backdoor
While declaring her support to Narendra Modi, she further stated
Between the two national parties, whom do we choose? Unless we are looking for a hung parliament, you need one of the two main parties for stability and the Congress has to be voted out…
To top it off, Kiran Bedi had tweeted:
For me it’s India First! Stable,Well Governed,Administered,Accountable and Inclusive. As a an independent voter, my vote is for NaMo
Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare reportedly said that he has no problem if the former IPS officer wants to contest the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
Kiran Bedi’s open support to Narendra Modi and at the same time declaring that Congress was the target of the anti-corruption campaign exposes the game plan behind Anna’s anti-corruption movement. Talking of Narendra Modi and anti-corruption in the same breath, Bedi displays a classic case of selective amnesia by forgetting Gujarat BJP MLAs and MPs – Babu Bokhiria (Mining Scam), Purushottam Solanki (Fisheries Scam), Dinu Bogha Solanki (charged with murder of RTI Activist Amit Jethwa), Amit Shah (Charged with Murder, Kidnapping, Extortion, etc etc) or the crony capitalism that Modi has promoted in Gujarat. In fact, ‘India Against Corruption’ was never a genuine anti-corruption movement but a camouflage for a devious political move to knock out Congress and boost the efforts of BJP to win the central elections of 2014.
After the revelations of Kiran Bedi, we searched through the archives to trace out the history of “India against Corruption – IAC†. The growth of IAC clearly appears to be in the womb of the right-wingers – Swami Ramdev, Kiran Bedi, Subramanian Swamy, Anupam Kher – the list is never-ending. The time line of IAC will establish this factor:
On November 14, 2010, nearly 10,000 people assembled at the Parliament Street Police Station for registering a complaint regarding corruption in the Commonwealth Games led by certain celebrities. Those who were present included Swami Ramdev, Kiran Bedi, Arvind Kejriwal, Swami Agnivesh, Anna Hazare etc. The ‘ India Against Corruption’ was born.
On December 1, 2010, a Press Conference was held in New Delhi, in which a comprehensive Anti-corruption Bill, Jan Lokpal Bill, was released. A memorandum signed by ShriShri Ravishankar, Mallika Sarabhai, Kiran Bedi, Arvind Kejriwal, Swami Agnivesh, Sunita Godara, Arch Bishop Vincent M Concessao, Devindra Sharma, Maulana Mufti Shamoom Kashmi, Pradeep Gupta, Kamalkant Jasawal, B B Lal, Gopal K Aggarwal and SK Tijarawala on behalf of Swami Ramdev on the letterhead of “India Against Corruption†was sent to the Prime Minister. Interestingly, Anna Hazare was not one of the signatories.
On February 26, 2011, Anna wrote to the PM for setting up a joint drafting committee. He mentioned about going on an indefinite fast in that letter. On April 5, 2011, Anna sat on an indefinite fast; nearly 500 people sat with him. On 8th April, Government agreed to form a joint committee to draft the Bill and with the full help of the media, Anna’s movement became a national movement.
On February 27, 2011, after holding a huge gathering under the banner of Bharat Swabhiman Trust, a group of social activists submitted a memorandum to President Pratibha Patil today demanding a strong anti-corruption law to deal with the menace. Yoga guru Baba Ramdev, Swami Agnivesh, Kiran Bedi, eminent advocate Ram Jethmalani and RTI activist Arvind Kejriwal, Hindu think-tank Govindacharya, Ex-Central Minister Dr. Subramanian Swami, Social activist Anna Hazare were among others who participated in the protests.
The movement went through several turns and twists till Kejriwal and his group split to form a political party “Aam Aadmi Party – AAP†. The split which was a result of the internal contradiction within IAC which spilt the truth as well. A well crafted movement to benefit the saffron brigade suddenly boomeranged. Congress was demolished all right in Delhi but AAP has now become the toughest hurdle for BJP to reach Delhi. To win the country, BJP has now lost the capital.
Before AAP can grab all the credit of the anti-corruption movement, the original protagonists are now coming forward to salvage whatever they can. Kiran Bedi therefore has now come out openly to declare her choice of who should be the Prime Minister. Anna has also lost no time to advise her to contest the 2014 election. But alas, it might be too late since Kejriwal has already been declared as “PM Material†in the recent media polls and has marched ahead of Rahul Gandhi. Thus the saffron brigade created their own arch nemesis.
