Movement for secular democracy (M.S.D.) and Peoples’ Union for Civil Liberties (P.U.C.L.) today jointly organised a Citizens Convention in Ahmedabad to mark 10 years of Gujarat Carnage – 2002. The Convention deeply felt that 10 years of carnage have passed with subversion of Democracy and in the absence of Rule of Law, Peace, Harmony and Justice. Among the speakers were Sh. Chunibhai Vaidya, Sh. Girishbhai Patel, Sh. Ilaben Pathak, Sh. Sureshbhai Mehta, Sh. Sanjeev Bhatt, Sh. R.B. Sreekumar, Sh. Saroop Dhruv, Sh. Yashwant Mehta, Sh. Sarahben Baldiwala, Sh. Dwarikanath Rath, Sh. Uttambhai Parmar, Sh. Tanveer Jafri, Sh. Gautambhai Thaker etc. Three resolutions were passed unanimously. The convention was presided over by Sh. Prakashbhai N. Shah.
The subversion of democracy was demonstrated today by the state administration by canceling the permission of demonstration at the last moment. The convention resolved to demonstrate on 9th March and go for peaceful law breaking if same attitude of administration remains. The program concluded with song "We shall Overcome" and slogans "Justice to Carnage Victims", "Ensure rule of law" etc.
The draft resolution passed is attached.
