The mere mention of the word Kashmir forced a media and arts collective in the city to call off an event, themed on the role art and literature in a place of conflict. A right-wing Hindu extremist group distorted the facts and, in a letter posted on a social networking site, falsely alleged that the event was being organised by a pro-Pakistan organisation. The group’s cheap publicity stunt worked as the organisers were forced to cancel the event.
