Southasians stand with Pakistan flood victims
A statement of alignment with the cause across the region and diaspora
Respected Cricket Councils and Boards,
We, the undersigned, belonging to the Southasian region, write with concern at the grave humanitarian crisis that confronts Pakistan following the devastating floods in the country, over a third of which is now under water. Nearly 1500 have died, around half a million are displaced, and several millions continue to be affected. We stand in solidarity with Pakistan and its people in this hour of need, and seek your support on humanitarian grounds.
Given the urgency of the situation, we request the International Cricket Council (ICC), Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and all member boards of the ACC which include SLC, BCCI, PCB, BCB and ACB to consider declaring the 2022 Asia Cup final as a benefit match.
We request that the proceeds of this match on 11 September 2022 at Dubai International Stadium be donated towards aid and relief for the flood-affected in Pakistan.
Additionally, we call upon the member boards of the national teams playing the finals to encourage the players to wear black bands in solidarity and contribute a part of their match fees.
We further request these cricket councils and boards including their players to support the cause, as per their capacity.
With thanks and regards,
Sapan, the Southasia Peace Action Network
