Release of the SAHR Publication on “Nation State Boundaries and Human Rights of People in South Asiaâ€

South Asians for Human Rights (SAHR) is pleased to release the publication “Nation State Boundaries and Human Rights of People in South Asia†based on its study of cross border issues by Shomona Khanna, a researcher and a lawyer from India. The publication provides a comprehensive analysis of the issues entailing the land and maritime boarders in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) region and approaches the issues from a human rights perspective detailing the impact cross border issues have on the lives and livelihood of people.

This publication maps various human rights violations in the border areas; deals with certain causes and the violators of rights; describes in detail the victims such as the refugees and the stateless people; and provides a broad remedial framework including the extant local, national and international mechanisms. The research, however, did not detail contentious issues between countries regarding demarcation of their boundaries or territories and focused only on the South Asian countries. Other countries in the region, even if they do have contiguous borders with South Asian states, do not form the subject matter of the study.

The publication can be accessed here.
