Pakistan: A Remembrance Meeting for Sobho Gyanchandani taking place on 25 Jan 2015 in Karachi

Sobho Gyanchandani reference at Arts Council on Sunday

KARACHI, Jan. 24: Comrade Sobho Gyanchandani Memorial Committee Karachi will organize a reference to remember Comrade Sobho at Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi on Sunday, where friends, lovers and members of Pakistan’s labour movement would attend in a large number. Senator Raza Rabbani, senior lawyer Abid Hassan Manto, Secretary General of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan I. A. Rahman, Director, Pakistan Study Centre, University of Karachi, Dr. Jaffar Ahmed, writer Zahida Hina, poetess Fahimda Riaz, intellectuals Muslim Shamim, Mazhar Jameel, Fatah Malik, Imdad Qazi, Karamat Ali, Amanullah Shaikh, Imdad Hussain, Mohammad Ali Pathan, Nirmal Gayanchandani and others would speak on the occasion.The speakers would discuss various aspects of life of Comrade Sobho and pay him tribute for his contribution in creating awareness among the working classes. Sobho died on December 8, 2014 at his ancestral village in Larkana district at the age of 94. An Urdu translation of Sobho Gayanchandani’s autobiography, published by Ahbab-e-Kidney Foundation would also be launched on the occasion. Senior choreographer and dance performer Ms. Sheema Kermani would present a cultural performance on the poetry of Shaikh Ayaz, Rabindarnath Tagore and Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai. A Pashto poet Sabir Ahmed would also perform on the occasion.The Comrade Sobho Gayanchandani Memorial Committee Karachi is comprised of Progressive Writers Movement, Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, Ahbab-e-Kidney Foundation, Irtiqa Institute of Social sciences, International Youth and Worker Movement, IUF Pakistan, SM Sohail Trust, All Pakistan Trade Union Organization, Aurat Foundation, Awami Workers Party, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, Pakistan Steel Workers Union, Pakistan India Peoples Forum for Peace and Democracy, Pakistan Institute of Labor Education and Research, PIA Skyways Union, KPT Labor Union, Pakistan Trade Union Defense Campaign, Shah Abdul Latif Chair, University of Karachi, Sindhi Adabi Sangat, Sindh Labour Federation, South Asia Partnership Pakistan, Sindh High Court Bar Association, Sindh Labor Solidarity Committee, Forum for Secular Pakistan, Tahrik-e-Niswan, National Students Federation, Democratic Students Federation, Karachi Press Club, Larkana Sangat, Railway Workers Union, Bazm e Asateza,Workers Welfare Trust and Muttahida Labor Federation. Sobho was a known writer, poet and journalists and edited and contributed in a number of Sindhi dailies and other journals all through his life. He was appointed editor of Sindhi daily founded by G M Syed. Comrade Sobho was twice elected to the Sindh provincial committee of the Communist Party and was a member of the Central Committee many a times. He was also a member of the first polit bureau of Communist Party of Pakistan (CPP) and Sajjad Zaheer was the general secretary.
