Appeal by the Peoples of Pakistan and India
(Launched at the Pakistan India People's forum for Peace and Democracy Convention, Lahore, November 1995)
We the peoples of India and Pakistan, who long for peace, cooperation and friendship between the two countries, view with alarm the growing hostility between the governments of both the countries and the diversion of our scarce resources towards increasing military expenditure. Wc urge upon the two governments to stop such military expenditures and use-these resources to eradicate poverty, malnutrition, illiteracy and the all-round underdevelopment that affect our people on both sides of the border.
We pledge ourselves to a joint struggle for working at all levels to remove suspicions and hostilities between the peoples of two countries, so that we can realize the dream for which we fought during our freedom struggle. Let us pledge to live together in peace and friendship.
