In Karachi
· ACAAR met again and issued a Declaration urging all peace-loving people to oppose the nuclearisation of the subcontinent. It was published in Dawn, Karachi
· Meetings with citizens and students (Habib Public School) and poster exhibitions were organised for the visiting delegation of Hibakusha (Hiroshima Bomb survivors), then on a visit to the city. At these functions, they described the horrendous scale of destruction and devastation the nuclear weapon can wreak upon both innocent people and nature.
· Forum for Peace and Development (FPD) organised a Peace and Development Seminar, at which renowned Artist Bashir Mirza dedicated a painting for peace and demilitarisation.
· ACAAR published a booklet ìAtom Bomb ki Kahaniî in Urdu. It was widely appreciated especially by teachers from different cities of the country who asked ACAAR for more copies for the benefit of their students.
· ACAAR published a book titled ìNuclearization: Basic Informationî, compiled by Dr. A. H. Nayyar, containing international agreements, conventions & protocols related to nuclear issues.
· A meeting organised by Baanhn Beli and attended by intellectuals, educationists, NGO workers and other concerned citizens in Karachi to discuss the human environment in a nuclear region, unanimously adopted a resolution, urging the Government not to slash the social sector spending in the next Budget, keeping in view the recent drastic changes in the regional scenario. Other resolutions adopted were that the Government should sign the CTBT, but not with conditions that are discriminatory against Pakistan; Government should ensure that the people are allowed to express their views on all issues at all forums. One of the speakers said it was ironic that through nuclear technology was available for so long, nothing was done to use it for the betterment and uplift of the people.
· Prof. Zakia Sarwar, a teacher of English language who is involved in teacher training, incorporated the video on A Paper Crane into a teaching workshop of an hour and 50 minutes. This interactive workshop is titled Teaching Peace Concepts Through Language. The idea is to give teachers an opportunity to see how Peace Concepts can be instilled while teaching Language Skills.
· A Pamphlet showing what would happen if a nuclear bomb is dropped on the city of Karachi, was distributed in public demonstrations, and was seen to be very effective inbringing home the devastative capability of nuclear weapons to the general public.
